Dear colleagues,
We are delighted to invite you to take part in a multidisciplinary scientific conference entitled ‘Exploring movement’, organised from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 July 2025 in Dijon by the STAPS UFR of the University of Burgundy, in conjunction with the INSERM Cognition, Action and Sensorimotor Plasticity laboratory (U1093).
As we approach the bicentenary of the birth of the Burgundian scientist Etienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904), the echoes of his scientific work and achievements continue to arouse admiration, curiosity and interest. Thanks to ingenious instruments and apparatus, and with the help of his collaborators and mechanics, he succeeded in capturing movement and thus studying the functions of life in the movement that properly belongs to them. At the dawn of the 20th century, the innumerable applications of the innovations he created contributed to the rise of modernity, in sectors as diverse and unexpected as medicine, physiology, aviation, photography, cinema, the arts, sports training and physical education.
By offering an integrated and quantified approach to the study of normal and pathological movement for over 30 years, the CAPS Inserm U1093 laboratory at the University of Burgundy has naturally oriented its research themes in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor. The Institut Marey, created in Dijon in 2015, offers the most advanced scientific tools for optimising and re-educating motor function, in response to health, well-being and sports performance needs.
The aim of this conference is to continue to explore and highlight the scientific interest and modernity of a work that is still revealing its secrets. Over the course of 2 and a half days, the programme will include lectures by renowned guests, combined with oral and poster presentations selected following a call for papers based on the four areas in which participants are expected to work.
